Once during a conversation with the media, Manish Malhotra himself told about his journey of becoming a designer. He told that he was brought up in a completely Punjabi environment. Whatever he wanted to do, he got full support from his mother since childhood. In the matter of studies, he was a little raw and his mind was little less in studies. Expressing his love for Bollywood, he said that he was so fond of watching movies that he used to watch every new release. He had told that he had joined the painting class in the sixth class. He really liked this class related to color and art. His fondness for films, interest in painting and looking at his mother’s clothes only fueled his love for fashion. Manish also revealed that when he was younger, he used to help his mother choose sarees for her.
Manish’s first connection with the world of fashion was made during college. Along with modeling, she started working in a boutique, where she learned the intricacies of designing. Manish told that he was given a salary of Rs 500 a month for working here. But he was happy even with this low salary, because he could not go abroad to study, so this boutique was the biggest source of learning for him. Manish Malhotra left no stone unturned to refine his work. He used to sit for hours continuously working on different sketches. Eventually, his hard work paid off and at the age of 25, he left his mark in the industry. He was to work as a designer in a film by Juhi Chawla. However, the turning point film for Manish’s career proved to be ‘Rangeela’, for which he also received the Filmfare Award.
Manish told that when he used to get work in the beginning of his career, the film producers used to get fed up with him, because he used to ask too many questions regarding the story and characters. The producers just wanted their stars to look fabulous on screen. But gradually everyone started liking his style and he made his name and identity. Manish Malhotra launched his label in the year 2005. According to reports, today Manish Malhotra’s earnings are in millions.
